A great weekend on the service courtesy of CROWN OF OAKS and BOW ECHO bolting up on Saturday followed by my horse, SHANTOU LUCKY, hacking up by 20 lengths at Fontwell on Sunday.
Over the past week or so there have been three horses to catch the eye and all are worth keeping a close eye on for future engagements:
ALMERAQ (William Haggas) – This Dark Angel colt was well fancied for his engagement at York on Sunday but unfortunately met some serious trouble when Jim Crowley clipped heels with Trevor Whelan’s mount causing him to be unseated. The horse is reportedly uninjured following what looked a nasty fall and is felt to be on a fair mark.
CROWN OF OAKS (William Haggas) – This improving Tony Bloom owned horse routed the field at Ascot on Saturday and is felt to be a major contender for the Cambridgeshire next month.
SUPERPOSITION (Ed Dunlop) – This four-year old remains unexposed on the AW where his form now reads 1,1,2,4 following his 4th on Saturday at Kempton when hitting the front far too soon under an aggressive ride from Jason Watson. He traded as short as evens in running at one point but looks well enough treated to add to his all-weather tally over the coming weeks.
SHANTOU LUCKY (James Owen) – Revitalised on his first start for James in the first-time visor, he dotted up and made a mockery of his mark. He’ll be turned out next week at Worcester, avoids a penalty and is expected to follow up by connections.
SKY SAFARI (James Fanshawe) – This filly did well to make it 4/4 on the all-weather at Kempton on Saturday despite being keener than ideal throughout. She’ll be stepped up in grade next time out and is expected to be a real force on the synthetics over the autumn and winter months..
