We continue on our superb run of form for the month sitting on an ROI for September of 61% following on from another brilliant week with Twilight Secret (3/1 into 11/8) among the highlights over the weekend. With the Cambridgeshire Meeting just around the corner and plenty planned, a busy week’s very much expected on the service.
Below I have listed 5 eye-catchers from this month which are tracker worthy – all will be going in soon and are ones to keep on side going forwards, as was the case with our last 5 highlighted runners of which two have already won.
LIBERATED LADY (Hugo Palmer) – Having been withdrawn the day prior to her intended run, this filly was given a very poor ride by Ryan Moore when repeatedly denied racing room to finish a fast closing 3rd. She’s qualified for lesser races and off what will no doubt be the same mark next time she’s of serious interest from a mark of 84 over either 6f or 7f.
FRESH HOPE (Charlie Fellowes) – A filly that’s felt to be well above average by her yard, this daughter of New Approach was backed from double figure prices in the morning into an SP of just 2/1 and shaped with bundles of promise amidst greenness. Having been tenderly handled that day by Jamie Spencer significant improvement can be expected wherever she goes next and she’s a filly well worth keeping on side based on her impressive homework with older horses.
WALLEM (Andrew Balding) – With some very strong form in the book this three-year old was well fancied last time out at Sandown to get his head back in front under Oisin Murphy, but it was clear from around a furlong out that the pair were going to be short of room which proved the case as he never got out into the clear until it was all too late, finishing with plenty of horse left into a close-up 3rd. He’ll remain of interest in similar Class 4 contests, particularly on Autumnal, rain-softened ground with his best efforts coming on soft/heavy.
WODETON (Andrew Balding) – Another horse from the Balding yard well wroth making note of is this colt by Wootoon Bassett who is held in very high regard indeed. It was only greenness and the fact he met a more tuned up horse on debut at Sandown that cost him the race and based on his continued high quality work at home he’s expected to get off the mark with the minimum of fuss next time out.
MOBADRA (Roger Varian) – This filly by Oasis Dream was felt to have been let in lightly by the handicapper from an opening mark of 81 at Newmarket, but having been without cover for the first-half of the race she was only edged out of matters late on by a horse with far more experience under her belt. Subject to the handicappers reassessment, the stable feel she can make her presence felt in handicaps sooner rather than later granted a more economical ride next time out.
